2004년 4월 15일은 대한민국 제17대 국회의원 선거가 있었던 날입니다. 그 날 소중한 한표를 행사하기 위하여 수원에서 제 고향 전라도 곡성까지 머나먼 길을 달려갔습니다. <br>
<br>
행복한 정치를 위하여 행복한 국민이 되기 위하여 그 먼 길을 달려가니 남도의 소중한 꽃 자운영이 기다리고 있었습니다. 남도의 들판은 초록의 봄을 머금은 신선함이 가득합니다. 그 안에 비료식물인 자운영이 고맙게도 인사를 합니다.<br>
<br>
자운영의 어린순은 나물로도 먹는답니다. 미나리를 데치듯 약간 파랗게 익힌 후 구수한 막된장과 고추장, 깨, 참기름, 설탕을 넣고 조물조물 비비면 됩니다.<br>
<br>
그리고 풀 전체는 해열·해독·종기·이뇨를 위해 한약 재료로도 사용합니다. 특히 뿌리에 콩처럼 뿌리혹박테리아가 붙어서 공중질소를 고정시켜 토질을 높이며, 꽃은 꿀벌에게 중요한 밀원이 되는 식물입니다. <br>

그 고마운 꽃 자운영을 한참동안 들여다 봅니다. <br>
